A 57-year-old Salem man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after entering a guilty plea in Marion County Court on Tuesday to a charge of attempted predatory criminal sexual assault to a victim under 13.

Rayvon Garner of South Rotan Street had originally been charged last September on two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault to a child under the age of 13.  Both charges stem from alleged sexual conduct involving an 11-year-old family member.  The victim reportedly disclosed to their parents the incident that occurred last August while they were visiting Garner’s home.   Police say during questioning Garner admitted to the incident.   They do not believe any other children were involved.

In addition to the 15-year prison term, Judge Mark Stedelin ordered Garner to complete one year of parole when getting out of jail.

Garner has been held in the Marion County Jail in lieu of a $150,000 bond since the time of his arrest.
