D. Helen Alexander, 92, of Calumet City, formerly of Patoka passed away Friday, July 15, 2022, surrounded with the love of her family. Helen was blessed with amazing friends, neighbors, and bingo buddies. Helen will be deeply missed but the family will be comforted by great memories of good times shared together.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2022, at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Patoka. Interment will follow at Pratt Cemetery in rural Patoka. Friends and relatives are welcome to a visitation time from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home in Patoka. Survivors include her son Gerald Douglas Alexander of Hammond, Indiana; daughters Jennie Lynn Ecklund of Kankakee, Illinois, and Pamela Sue and Roman Doloski of New Lenox, Illinois; grandchildren Thomas McClure and Cindy of Hoopeston, Illinois, Scott Ecklund and Timburley of Crown Point, Indiana, Matthew Doloski and Lisa of Clarksville, Tennesee, and Trevor Doloski of New Lenox, Illinois; great-grandchildren Ambur, Alexus, and Abby Ecklund, Alex McClure, and Ella and Ava Doloski; siblings Bill Edwards of Patoka, Sue Quick of Streator, Illinois, and Sharon and husband Doug Back of Patoka; and many nieces and nephews.
She was born on June 21, 1930, the daughter of Dean and May (Gordon) Edwards in Maroa, Illinois. She married the love of her life and bingo partner, Walter G. Alexander on December 7, 1948, in Little Rock, Arkansas and he preceded her in death on October 2, 2004. Along with her husband of 55 years, Helen was preceded in death by her parents Dean and May Edwards; her brothers Woodie Edwards and wife Virgie, and Don Edwards and wife Edna; sister-in-law Wilma Edwards; and brother-in-law Tom Quick.
