Dorothy Mae Pitchford, 96, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 5:00 am July 20, 2022 at Mount Vernon Health Care Center. Dorothy worked at the Shoe Factory, Mount Vernon TB Sanitarium, Murray Center Annex, and was the owner and operator of Peerless Dry Cleaning. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Dorothy was a loving mother and grandmother. She will be deeply missed.
A Graveside Service will be held Friday, July 22, 2022 at 9:00 am at Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser, Illinois with Reverend Russell Gaston officiating. Interment will follow. Dorothy is survived by her children, Kenneth L. Pitchford and wife, Debbie and Jessica Gowler and husband, Gary, all of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Sandra Hicks and husband, Roger of Sesser, Illinois, Marcia Bandy and husband, Rodney of Tampa, Florida, Billy Pitchford and wife, Twanna of Valier, Illinois, Michael Pitchford and significant other, Jackie of Mount Vernon, Tracy Wilson and husband, Gordon of Wayne City, Illinois, Jessica Pitchford and significant other, Heath of Mount Vernon, Dustin Pitchford of Mount Vernon, and Melissa Rettig and husband, Michael of Fenton, Missouri; nineteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was born May 11, 1926 in Sesser, Illinois to the late Bryan and Mattie (McBride) Eubanks. Dorothy married William “Bill” Pitchford. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1982. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Farrell Pitchford; siblings, Leslie Eubanks, Cecil Eubanks, Harry Eubanks, Bill Eubanks, Eleanor D’Hailcourt, Edith Guthrie, and Mildred Tate.
