A lawsuit brought against the City of Centralia by now Mayor Bryan Kuder seeking to be seated as Mayor in the prior election two years ago has ended. The council in 2019 found Kuder did not meet residency requirements and appointed Herb Williams to serve as appointed Mayor until the April 2021 election.
In the written ruling ending the court case, Judge Kimbara Harrell denied Kuder’s motion for judgment on the pleadings and the summary judgment. She heard arguments on the two issues on March 19th, just a few weeks before the most recent city election which Kuder also won. However, there was no challenge to his residency this time and Kuder was seated as Mayor as scheduled in May.
Kuder says the judge’s decision really has no impact now since he was successful in being seated as Mayor after the most recent election which was his goal all along. He notes it was never his intent to seek damages from the city for their actions.
Under the judge’s decision, both sides will be responsible for paying their own court costs.
