A 29-year-old Woodlawn man being sought in connection with the shooting death of a Mt. Vernon man early Sunday morning outside the Corner Tavern in Mt. Vernon has been arrested exiting the Drury Inn Hotel in O’Fallon.
Jaquez Gardner was taken into custody Tuesday night without incident on the Jefferson County warrant charging First Degree Murder and Armed Habitual Offender. The bond on the warrant is set at $3-million. In addition to the murder warrant, Gardner is also being held on a no-bond parole violation warrant issued by the Illinois Department of Corrections.
He is accused of shooting 34-year-old Jamarco Foulks multiple times on the tavern parking lot at 19th and Perkins resulting in Foulks death from multiple wounds to his torso a short time after he was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Detectives and the US Marshal Task Force had started surveillance on the Drury Inn Hotel in O’Fallon several hours earlier after members of the O’Fallon Police Department located a vehicle associated with Gardner parked outside.
