The Central City Village Board on a five to one vote Monday night terminated Police Chief Nicholas Heath.
The action came following a closed session on the recommendation of Mayor Ken Buchanan. Trustees DG Cushman, Chuck Mattmiller, Gary Hall, RoseAnn Pickett, and Blake Dukes all voted for the termination with Shane Swartzlander casting the only no vote. There was no public discussion on the action and Buchanan indicated he would have no further comment.
Buchanan says former Chief Jim Malloy will take the chief’s position back at last until school resumes in August as the village looks for a new chief.
Malloy resigned as chief to take the school resource officer position at Central City School last year and wants to return to that position. Heath was promoted to chief after Malloy’s resignation after serving as a Sergeant in the Department for many years.
Heath says on the advice of his attorney he is not talking about the decision.
The Central City Board has held several closed-door sessions on the personnel issue between two employees and at the recommendation of their attorney hired an investigator who earlier delivered a report to the board on his findings.
