Centralia City Council to be asked to name Blake Griffin as new councilman

Centralia Mayor Bryan Kuder will recommend Blake Griffin be appointed to the city council.

The recommendation will come at Monday night’s meeting.   Griffin, if approved, would fill the last two years of Councilman David Sauer’s term.   Sauer resigned earlier this month.

Kuder says the city council had no objections to Griffin’s appointment when the name was brought up during a closed session of the last meeting.

“I’ve known Blake for many years.  I’ve been friends with him, my family has friends with his family, so there is a family connection.  He served 18 years on the Centralia City Grade School Board.  He is currently the Vice President of the School Board.  He’s very financially responsible.   I just believe with everything he brings will be a great addition to the Centralia City Council.  He is a business owner, a lifelong resident, he raised his family here.   In my opinion, he would be an excellent choice.”

Kuder says if Griffin is approved, he’ll be immediately sworn in and take his seat on the council.

Under state law, Griffin will have to resign his seat on the Centralia City Grade School Board when taking the city council position.

The meeting begins at six Monday night at Centralia City Hall and will also be broadcast via zoom for those who wish to watch from home.

The regular meeting will be preceded by a work session at five to discuss a new city water treatment plant.
