A fire believed to have been started by burning embers from a brush fire spread to a small shed and part of a pole barn before being extinguished late Monday afternoon.
Centralia Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Ross Boshera says the fire was on the Shayne and Lora Densmore property at 2229 East Calumet.
Boshera reports Lora Densmore noticed smoke coming from the shed and then discovered it was heavily involved in fire. The fire destroyed the 16 by 20-foot shed and jumped to a carport and one corner of a pole barn before it was extinguished. Boshera describes damage to the pole barn and its contents as moderate.
Boshera reports there were two vehicles under the carport and a third on a trailer next to the carport that were damaged by the fire.
Another shed that was nearby was not damaged at all by fire.
Boshera said they got a good knockdown and had no issues in fighting the fire. The fire call came in at 4:31 Monday afternoon. Firemen were on the scene until about six pm. Centralia City Firemen stood by to assist if the district had any other fire calls.
This story has been updated to indicate there was moderate damage to both the pole barn building and contents.
