The Salem Fire Protection District was called to the Salem Walmart Store on West Main Street Saturday afternoon to a fire alarm in the bakery cooking area.
Firemen say there was a grease fire on the stove, but an employee activated the fire suppression system over the fryer hood and had the fire out upon their arrival. There was smoke in the area but was removed by the store’s commercial ventilation system. Firemen report no damage to the cooking equipment.
The store was not evacuated.
The fire alarm sounded at 3:10 Saturday afternoon.
