Severe thunderstorm tracks across part of Marion County Saturday morning

A severe thunderstorm with strong winds is blamed for knocking down at least four trees in Marion County around six Saturday morning.

Salem Police report one tree fell in the 700 block of West Boone, bringing down a transformer and a power pole with it.   About a dozen Ameren Illinois customers were left without power.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Department reported threes down on Kinmundy Road south of Tonti Road, Route 37 near the Kinoka Road, and on Walnut Street in Odin.   While no power lines were involved, all blocked the roadways until removed.

While there were some heavy areas of rain, the Salem Water Plant reported only seven one-hundredth of an inch of rain and the Centralia Water Plant just five one-hundredths of an inch of rain.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the storm around 5:40 Saturday morning.
