IDES warns of a growing number of identity theft scams

The Illinois Department of Employment Security is warning the public to be on high alert for identity theft scams.

IDES has been inundated with fraudulent claims and individuals are being targeted as well.   Director Kristin Richards says con artists are trying to get personal information through email, text, and social media messages.

“We’ve seen instances on Facebook where individuals are setting up ake accounts pretending they are the Illinois Department of Employment Security or an employee of the Illinois Department of Employment Security and are attempting to represent they can help someone with a claim. The Department of Employment Security staff will not be interacting with someone on Facebook.”

Richards says if you receive a suspicious message, guard your information carefully.

More information about the scams is available online at IDES.Illinois.gov.
