It was a lengthy process, but Centralia City Firemen with assistance from the Centralia Fire Protection District removed smoldering insulation from the attic of a Centralia home Saturday night with the use of buckets.
Fire officials say by doing so, they were able to keep damage to the Matthew Beazley home at 540 Linden during an electrical wiring fire to a minimum.
The Beazley family discovered the problem when a breaker blew and they smelled something hot. Firemen traced the problem to wiring in the attic where the smoldering fire had started in blown-in insulation.
Firemen say they had to remove a portion of the kitchen ceiling to get to the fire, but otherwise, the damage is minimal. By removing the smoldering insulation by hand, fire officials say they avoided using additional water that would have increased damage.
All available Centralia City Firemen were called to the scene along with the Centralia Fire Protection District. Sandoval Firemen stood by at the main Centralia Fire Station in the event of another fire.
The fire call came in at 7:07 Saturday night. Firemen were on the scene for about two hours.
