Salem Family Fun Day in the Park returns Saturday after a year’s absence due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Salem Recreation Director and YMCA Director Jed Casburn says some favorites are back along with some new events.
“The traditional youth fishing derby. We are also going to try something different this year we are doing a disc golf longest drive to promote our beautiful disc golf course. And then we are going to try a youth home run derby.”
Casburn says a number of groups, organizations, and churches are providing events.
“Very pleased with the community support. We got Salem Rotary, Lions Club, the churches of Salem, CASA, Keep Salem Beautiful, Sleep in Heavenly Peace and the Salem Fire Department. They’ve always done a good job every year for us. And we got special guests coming. Batman is coming this year and he will be walking around the park and I hear there even might be a Ghostbuster Band.”
Casburn says the fishing derby will kick off the activities at 7:30 at the Salem Reservoir with the other events taking place from ten to two at Bryan Memorial Park in the area of the Aquatics Center and Men’s Softball Field.
