Memorial Day programs are planned in Salem, Centralia, and Patoka on Monday.

In Salem, the American Legion will host the program with Mayor Nic Farley as guest speaker.  Music will be by the Little Egypt Brass Quintet.  It will be held in the American Legion Parking Lot.  Those attending are encouraged to bring chairs.   Refreshments and finger foods will follow the ceremony inside the legion.   For those unable to attend in person, it will be broadcast on the Salem American Legion’s Facebook Page.

The Memorial Service in Centralia will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park and hosted this year by the Centralia American Legion Post with other veteran organizations in Centralia serving as co-hosts.   The keynote speaker will be U.S. Navy Lieutenant Reverend Sidney Davis, Junior.  A Flag Folding Ceremony is also planned along with a Three-Volley Salute followed by Don Beaty playing taps.

In Patoka, the Memorial Day Service will be held in the Patoka Cemetery.

All three ceremonies begin at eleven Monday morning and everyone is invited to attend.

Most government offices, banks, and financial institutions are closed on Monday for Memorial Day.   That includes Salem and Centralia City Hall and area courthouses.   There will be no trash pickup in Salem or Centralia, with trash pickup running one day late the rest of the week.   The Tuesday-Thursday landscape waste pickup schedule in Salem will not be affected.
