Salem Firemen say they were able to limit damage to the rear of the cab of a semi that caught fire on I-57 early Sunday morning.
When firemen arrived on the scene, the back portion of the cab had flames shooting from it from an apparent fire that began with the braking system. Firemen were able to detach the trailer to keep the fire from spreading to it. The fire was knocked down in the cab before it could spread to the passenger and engine compartment.
The truck was traveling in the northbound lanes of I-57 near mile marker 109 seven miles south of the Salem interchange when the fire was discovered.
The name of the driver and trucking company was not immediately available on fire department reports.
The fire call came in at 3:29 Sunday morning.
