Marion County reports 119th COVID-19 related death

The Marion County Health Department is reporting the county’s 119th COVID-19 related death on Wednesday.   The health department reports the victim was a female in her 50s who was not a long-term care resident and who had not been vaccinated.

The health department is also reporting four new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday and Wednesday.  One is a student who was not at school during their infectious period.  None were long-term care residents.  Two of the cases are considered community spread and two are from household or close contacts.

There are now 17 active cases in Marion County, with no one hospitalized.   No one was been released from isolation in the past two days.

Four new cases are being reported in Jefferson County on Tuesday and Wednesday.  14 are currently on isolation.

The Washington County Health Department is reporting one new case Saturday through Tuesday.  Three remain on isolation and one person is hospitalized.

The Fayette County Health Department is reporting 16 new cases of COVID-19 since their last report on May 17th.  Three of the cases are connected with a congregate living facility.

Statewide, 1,139 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Wednesday along with 27 new deaths including the one in Marion County.  The only other Southern Illinois Death was a male in his 50s in Williamson County.

The seven-day statewide positivity rate has dropped to an even two percent.  More than 11-million vaccines have now been administered in Illinois.  66-percent of Illinois adults have at least one vaccine dose and 49-percent are fully vaccinated.
