A 24-year-old Salem man is being held in the Marion County Jail for aggravated battery with a weapon. Dustin Taylor of Hotze Road was taken into custody after allegedly entering an apartment in the 400 block of South Maple Saturday morning and getting into a fight when he used what appeared to be part of a walking stick to hit a male occupant over the head.
Police say the victim was treated and released for head injuries at Salem Township Hospital.
Taylor fled the scene on a bicycle. He was seen riding in the 700 block of North Broadway where Salem Police attempted to stop him. Police report Taylor then ditched the bike and attempted to run on foot. However, after they threatened to shoot him with a Tazer, Taylor stopped and was taken into custody without further incident.
Police were first notified of the alleged attack at 10:47 Saturday morning.
