Centralia City Council returns to in-person meetings with limited audience

By Bruce Kropp May 24, 2021 | 10:50 AM

The Centralia City Council returns to in-person meetings Monday night.

City Clerk Kim Enke says all the city council, mayor, and staff will be attending in person along with a limited audience.   She reports the chambers can hold about 40 people, but the number is not set in stone because those in the same family can sit in a cluster without the required six feet of social distancing.   While the city is still asking everyone to wear a mask in the council chambers, it will not be enforced.   There will continue to be a Zoom broadcast of the meetings for those who are overflow from in-person attendance or who chose to watch from another location.

On the agenda, Monday night is a resolution of support of revitalization projects in conjunction with the Centralia Chamber of Commerce Image Committee.   City Manager Forrest Langenfeld says the image committee is developing a project list to take the steps to improve the image and quality of life for the citizens and visitors with the goal of growing the community.   There are multiple projects that they intend to fund with donations, sponsorships, and grants.

The council will be asked to pass a resolution to direct the demolition or repair of certain dangerous and dilapidated buildings.   The homes are at 400 South Cherry, 436 and 429 South Elm, 615 South Pine, 650 North Walnut, 306 North Maple, and 1020 South Cherry.

A resolution is up for consideration that would allow motor fuel tax on all construction and engineering for improvements to the entire length of Blackberry Run.

An ordinance would allow yield signs on West Sixth Street at the intersection of Bond Street.

As COVID-19 mitigations are relaxed, the council will be asked to pass resolutions to close streets to allow for the Veterans 4th of July Parade along with the Centralia Halloween Parade and the children’s Halloween Parade.

The meeting begins at six Monday night.

This meeting will be conducted and attended as a full hybrid meeting. The City of Centralia is providing the following weblink and phone number for use by citizens to join approximately 5 minutes before the start of the meeting if they are not able to attend in person.
