Governor JB Pritzker is announcing one and a half-billion dollars in assistance for renters and landlords struggling during the pandemic.
The Illinois Rental Payment Program provides eligible applicants with up to $25,000 for rent, to be paid directly to landlords says State Housing Development Authority Directory Kristin Faust.
“It offers up to 15 months of rental assistance going all the way back of June 2020 and going forward to August of 2021. And this assistance is a grant. It does not need to be repaid.”
Right now, landlords and tenants can apply jointly.
Applications for ILRPP will be accepted Monday, May 17 through Monday, June 7. Interested residents can apply online at: ILRPP.IHDA.org.
Governor Pritzker is also announcing that the moratorium on evictions will be phased out by August.
