2022 05/11 – Melvin “Mel” D. Hoffman

Melvin “Mel” D. Hoffman, 80, of Centralia, passed away at 11:35 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2022, at his home. Mr. Hoffman was a graduate of Woodlawn High School, and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, knife making, and gardening.

Funeral services for Mr. Hoffman will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, with Pastor Danny Dennis and Pastor Kenneth Rager officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens, in Woodlawn. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service, at the Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be made to the family of Mr. Hoffman, and will be accepted at the service, or by mail to the Osborn Funeral Home, P.O. Box 130, Dix, Illinois 62830. On March 26, 1982, in Mt. Vernon, he married Jenette Brooks, and she survives in Centralia. In addition to his wife, Jenette Hoffman; he is survived by his children, Trina Darnell of Centralia, Mel Hoffman of Colorado, Tracy Simonson and husband Curtis of Mt. Vernon, Roda Dennis and husband Danny of Enfield, Melissa Tucker of Mt. Vernon, Janet Roberts of Enfield, Duke Roberts of Centralia, and Randy Childers of Centralia; many Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren; and sisters, Donna McGovern of Mt. Vernon, and Phyllis Henery of Mt. Vernon.

He was born March 22, 1942, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, the son of Gilbert and Edna (Weatherford) Hoffman. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jo Ann Fleener; sister, Rosetta “Kay” King; and brothers, Ed Weatherford and C.L. Hoffman.
