2022 05/10 – Inez Stover

Inez Stover, 97, of Centralia, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her family. Inez was born and raised in Centralia. She was the last surviving Snider sister of eight girls. She attended the Zion Hill School, which was a one room grade school, and she was a graduate of the Centralia Township High School Class of 1943. Inez retired from Illinois Bell after 30 years of service. She then worked with her husband, Frank, at the Stover’s Jewelry Store and Cupboard Natural Food Shop in Centralia.  Inez was a member of the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in rural Centralia for many years and later moved her membership to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Centralia. Inez had a passion for growing and taking care of flowers and doing yard work. She also, enjoyed cooking. Inez’s pride and joy was her family. She cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Inez Stover will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 12:00 PM at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with Rev. Paula Comper officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia. Visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery Fund and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618)532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Stover Family. Inez is survived by her three children: Linda Shumaker and husband Ron of Decatur, Larry Stover of Springfield, and Hollie “Ed” Stover of Centralia; four grandchildren: Michael Shumaker and wife Tricia of Mount Zion, Todd Shumaker and wife Michelle of Mount Zion, Keith Stover of Springfield and Sarah Stover of Springfield; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was born May 5, 1924 in Centralia, the daughter of Ernest Snider and Minnie (Davis) Snider. She married Frank Stover on June 8, 1947 and he preceded her in death on October 18, 1996. She was preceded in death by her parents: Ernest and Minnie Snider, husband: Frank Stover, daughter-in-law: Barbara Stover, and her seven sisters.
