Marion County Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says a long-term care resident who died from COVID-19 this week had not been vaccinated by her choice. The female in her 90s was a long-term care resident whose COVID-19 symptoms were confirmed after she went to the hospital for treatment.
When testing was completed on other residents, six others were found positive. They are all reported to be doing fine.
The Marion County Health Department reported four new COVID-19 cases on Friday. None were long-term care residents. One was a student who was not at school during their infectious period. Two of the cases are considered community spread and two are the result of household or close contacts. There are now 20 active cases in Marion County. None are hospitalized.
The Illinois Department of public health is reporting 36 additional deaths on Friday, including a female in her 70s in Jefferson County. The department is also reporting three new cases and 17 on isolation.
Clinton County is reporting two new positive cases on Friday. 16 are on home isolation and three are hospitalized.
Wayne County is reporting three new cases and 15 in isolation.
Statewide there were 3,321 new cases reported on Friday, including 36 additional deaths. In addition to the Jefferson County death, Southern Illinois deaths were also reported in St. Clair and Williamson Counties.
