The Salem City Council Monday night selected Kaskaskia College Administrator Amy Troutt to fill the remainder of the council term of now Mayor Nic Farley.

Troutt says she’s excited about the opportunity to help her hometown thrive.

“Questions you asked was it in my plans to run and politics at the local level was not in my plan but I think this is an opportunity I want to take advantage of.  And when it’s time to make that decision then I certainly would want others that can serve in that position to have that opportunity.  So I’m going to take this opportunity to serve my community and then make that decision with the time comes.”

Troutt was nominated by the position by Farley following a closed session.

“She was a previous co-worker that I was impressed with when I worked at Kaskaskia College.  And even when we didn’t see eye to eye she let’s come up with a solution we can both work together on.  I’ve been impressed with her work and leadership in the community so it was a breath of fresh air when she volunteered and I was able to announce Amy Troutt.”

The only no vote to Troutt’s appointment was from Councilman Jim Koehler who favored the appointment of Jacob Hockett who had finished third in the election. But Koehler says he has nothing against Troutt and looks forward to working with her.
