The Salem Community Theatre plans to reopen this summer with the Off-Broadway smash hit musical “The Marvelous Wonderettes”.

Performances are scheduled the weekends of July 16th through the 18th and July 23rd through the 25th.

The musical written by Roger Bean will be directed locally by Gret Tindall. The show will take you to a 1958 high school prom featuring four young ladies who
sing together in Andrews Sister’s style, serenading the audience with class 50s hits.

In the second act of the show, the young ladies, ten years older, have come together at their class reunion to harmonize once again, this time on 60s classics.

Auditions for the “Marvelous Wonderettes” will be held on May 10th and 11th from seven to nine pm, with a possible third day of auditions on May 12th reserved for call-backs. Auditions will be held at the Salem Community Theatre. Cast openings are for four young women with strong voices able to sing parts and blend well. The women need to be able to play the part of high school senior in the first act and a late twenty-something in the second. There is also a small part for a young male.

You can make audition appointments on line at the Salem Theatre’s Facebook Page. You can also call Tindall for more information at 618-315-4771.

Under current guidelines, audiences would be limited to 50 per show, but Theatre Board Chair Drew Johnson hopes COVID-19 rules are relaxed by July to at least allow 50-percent capacity.

The theatre is also announcing that the Missoula Children’s Theatre will not be held this summer due to COVID-19 restrictions. The popular summer program is expected to return next year.
