Janis Hampton, 87 Years, of Belleville, Illinois, formerly of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, passed away at her home on April 30, 2022, at 4:30 AM.
She was born December 1, 1934, in Ashley, Illinois, to Louie and Frieda Piper (Ferguson). Janis married Darrell Hampton on September 5, 1959. He preceded her in death on December 16, 2003.
Janis is survived by her sons, Steven Hampton, and wife, Melinda of Belleville, Illinois, and Gregg Hampton, and wife, Kelley of Gallatin, Tennessee; grandchildren, Allison Hampton of St. Louis, Missouri, and Matthew Hampton of St. Louis, Missouri, and Trey Hampton of Gallatin, Tennessee; nephew, Nathan Wright of Franklin, Tennessee; and brother-in-law, Bill Wright of Franklin, Tennessee.
In addition to her parents and husband, Janis was preceded in death by her sister, Pamela Sue Wright (Piper).
Janis was a member of First Christian Church of Belleville, as well as attended Central Christian Church in Mount Vernon. She volunteered at the food bank and at Friends of the Library. She loved to travel to New York City and Charleston, South Carolina, and previously lived in Kailua, Hawaii. She found joy in attending plays and musicals at the Fox Theater and McKendree University. She also was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2022, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois, and a funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm with Mr. Doug Hargrave officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois.
