James Michael “Mike” Campbell, 70, of Bonnie, Illinois, passed away at 6:03 am April 22, 2022, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana.
He was born July 28, 1951, in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Bob and Imogene Campbell. James married Vicky (Knox) Campbell on July 31, 1971, in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
In addition to his loving wife of nearly fifty-one years, Mike is survived by his son, Michael Campbell and wife, Jenny of Mount Vernon, Illinois; daughter, Tonya Eller and husband, Chester of Texico, Illinois; grandchildren, Anthony Campbell, Dawson Campbell, Janessa Swilling and husband, Zach, Sarah Dawdy and husband, Seth, Gavin Eller; soon to be great-grandchild, Lakelynn Wilder Swilling; sisters-in-law, Judy Jackson of Bonnie, Illinois, Trava Campbell of Mount Vernon, Illinois; brothers-in-law, Junior Knox and wife, Melba of Woodlawn, Illinois, Paul Rostallan of Mt Vernon; beloved cat, Smokey; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Joe Campbell; sisters, Carolyn Meloche and husband, Bill, Patty Wickstrom and husband, Dwayne, Linda Rostallan; father-in-law, Louis M. Knox; mother-in-law, Betty Knox; brother-in-law, Bernard “Butch” Jackson; nephew, Mark Knox; and beloved cat, Miss Kitty.
Mike was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mike had many talents including woodworking, cake decorating, building model cars, sewing civil war era clothing, painting, and his selective hearing. He also enjoyed participating in civil war re-enactments with his wife and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Visitation will be held Monday, April 25, 2022, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 10:00 am at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Pastor Brian Palmer officiating.
