Eunice I Lane, 98, of Bluford, Illinois, passed away at 11:51 am on March 27, 2022, at her residence. She was born March 23, 1924, in Wayne County, Illinois to the late Sam and Hattie (Wood) Braddock. Eunice married Archie E. Lane on November 17, 1945, in Effingham, Illinois. They were blessed with nearly fifty-two years of marriage before he preceded her in death on August 18, 1997. Eunice is survived by her daughters, Patty Jackson and husband, Bruce and Peggy Vance, and significant other, Steve Walkington; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Eunice was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Steve Vance; grandson, Scott Sanner; great-grandson, Morgan McKinney; four brothers; and one sister.
Eunice was Jefferson County Deputy Circuit Clerk for several years. She also worked for fourteen years at Western Union until she retired in December 1985. Eunice was a member of East Hickory Hill Baptist Church.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, April 2, 2022, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Sunday, April 3, 2022, at 10:00 am at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Richard McCormick officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Eunice’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
