Jim O. Morgan, 86, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 2:50 pm March 22, 2022 at his residence. He was born December 8, 1935 in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Lewis and Margaret Opal (Beckham) Morgan. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was the owner and operator of Morgan’s Tree Nursery. John was also a dedicated farmer throughout his life. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether it be hunting, fishing, or even helping his wife in the flower garden. He was passionate about farming and tending to the cattle. Jim enjoyed going square dancing with Betty, as well. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and adored him.
A Visitation will be held Friday, March 25, 2022 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 pm with Reverend Chad Everett officiating. Interment will follow at South Hickory Hill Cemetery in Mount Vernon. A Flag Presentation will take place at the cemetery by the American Legion Post #141. Memorials may be made in Jim’s honor to South Hickory Hill Cemetery. Jim is survived by his son, Kenny Morgan and wife, Susan of Opdyke, Illinois; grandchildren, Bryan Morgan of Mount Vernon, Brad Morgan and wife, Erin of Alma, Illinois, and Shelby Morgan of Opdyke, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Danielle Morgan of Mount Vernon, Brianna Morgan of Mount Vernon, and Braylee Morgan of Opdyke; great-great-grandson, Waylon Tate of Mount Vernon; siblings, Rob Morgan and wife, Patsy, Charlie Morgan and wife, Debbie, Linda Smith and husband, Kenny; and several nieces and nephews.
Jim married Betty Louise (Brown) Morgan on June 15, 1957 in Elk Prairie Township. They were blessed with nearly 62 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on April 18, 2019. In addition to his parents and wife, Jim was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
