2022 03/04 – Arline E. Ahrens

Arline E. Ahrens, 88, of Centralia, passed away Monday, February 28, 2022, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. Arline worked at Farmers State Bank in Hoffman as the Head Teller for 40 plus years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years, a Guild Member, Women’s Missionary League and she held several offices at the church. Arline enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s ball games, and Polka Dances in Minnesota, Iowa, and St. Louis, Missouri. She loved traveling, especially to Hawaii, playing cards, and spending time with her family.

Funeral Services for Arline Ahrens will be held Friday, March 4, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia with Pastor Miguel Torneire officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 3, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia and also Friday, March 4, 2022, from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the donor’s choice or Trinity Lutheran Church and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618)532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Ahrens Family. She married Willis Ahrens on August 12, 1956, and he survives. In addition to her husband of 65 years, Willis Ahrens of Centralia, she is also survived by two grandchildren: Samantha Rodrick and husband Josh of Claremont, Illinois and Brent Koelmel and wife Lindsay of St. Louis, Missouri; one great-granddaughter: Adalynn Koelmel, and one on the way; son-in-law: Terry Koelmel of Centralia; brother: Harold Sprehe and wife Esther of Springfield, Illinois; sister-in-law: Priscilla Sprehe of Mesa, Arizona; several nieces and nephews: Terry Ahrens and wife Lila of Breese, Steve Sprehe of Mesa, Arizona, Cindy Queen and husband Ken of Mesa, Arizona, Marilyn Mayer and husband Jan of Bowie, Maryland, Janet Sprehe of Tampa, Florida, Mark Sprehe and wife Julia of Springfield, Illinois.

She was born June 18, 1933, in New Minden, the daughter of Harry Sprehe and Regina (Going) Sprehe. Arline was preceded in death by her parents: Harry and Regina Sprehe, daughter: Lynette Kay Koelmel, mother and father-in-law: Harry and Laura Ahrens, and brother-in-law: Willard and Juanita Ahrens.
