Floyd Edward Cook, age 90 of Centralia, passed away at his home on Thursday, February 17, 2022, with his wife Sharon and friend Becky Jett by his side.
Floyd was born on April 18, 1931, in Sandoval, IL the son of Floyd Elmer and Martha Jane (Campbell) Cook. He married Sharon C. Hanks on August 18, 1975, in Salem and she survives in Centralia.
In addition to his wife of 46 years he is survived by two sons, Charles Olen Cook and wife Valerie of Oklahoma and Floyd Edward Cook, Jr. and wife Lin of Shiloh, IL; grandchildren, Jake Cook and wife Maria, Andrew Cook, Sara Cook, and Shannon Shores and husband Ryan; great-grandchildren, Grayson Shelly and Leo Shores; brother-in-law, Ernie Hanks and wife Patti of Alma; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Howard “Buck” Cook; and one sister, Angelina Perkins.
Floyd was of the Presbyterian faith. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He worked for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad until retirement. Floyd was an avid golfer and was a member of the Sandoval Colonial Golf Course from the time they opened until three years ago. He was a member of the Centralia American Legion Post 446, Centralia VFW Post 2055, and the Centralia Elks Lodge 493.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem followed by Military Rites by the Centralia American Legion Post 446 and the Centralia VFW Post 2055. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials can be made to the Sandoval High School Golf Team and can be received at the funeral home.
