2022 02/18 – Joseph “Joe” Wendell Kohut

Joseph “Joe” Wendell Kohut, 77, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 9:25 pm February 14, 2022 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. Joe was a member of Jefferson Lodge #0368 A.F. and A.M. of Opdyke, Shriners, Sons of American Legion #141, and lifetime Gun and Sportsmans Club Member. Joe was an avid Cubs fan and loved to hunt and fish. He loved to be around people and tell stories. Joe will be greatly missed.

A Visitation will be held Friday, February 18, 2022 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 pm with Chaplain Ernie Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Joe married Connie (Gwin) Kohut on May 24, 1997 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. In addition to his loving wife of twenty-four years, Joe is survived by his children, Tamara Price and Jim Andros, Marla Vasquez and fiancé, Tim McGehee, Tracy Schuetz and husband, Brian, Clifford Morton and wife, Monica; grandchildren Travis and wife, Ashley, Thomas and wife, Kaitlyn, Katelynn, Skyler, Kassidy, Abel; great-grandchildren, Alliana, Ridge, Adelyn, Kassius; and sister, Rosalee Fryer.

He was born August 10, 1944 in Ina, Illinois to the late Joseph and Beulah (Tyler) Kohut. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sisters, Bonnie Moore and Geraldine Ramsey; parents-in-law, Buck and Betty Thorpe; and his yorkie sidekick companion, Bobbie.
