Dorma Ruth Beck, 92, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 12:10 am February 15, 2022 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. Bob and Dorma were avid Mount Vernon Township High School Basketball fans. Bob played all through high school in the early 1940s. They bought Bob’s parents season tickets when Bob graduated from high school. They had the same reserved seats in the old gym for over seventy-five years until the new gym was built. They seldom missed a game during that time.Dorma worked at the Emerson Hotel and at her parents’ grocery store, Dodson’s Market as a bookkeeper. She worked at Beck Bus Transportation as a bookkeeper and office manager. Dorma was a board member at C.E. Brehm Memorial Library for six years from 1969-1975. She was a member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority, a philanthropic sorority for sixty years from 1950-2010. Dorma was a pink lady (auxiliary) at the old Good Samaritan Hospital. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Elks, a member of the Green Hills Golf Club since it was the Elks Country Club. Dorma and Bob were on numerous bowling leagues throughout their marriage. She was the caregiver of her husband, mother, and daughter. Dorma had a very sweet soul and will be greatly missed.
A Visitation will be held Friday, February 18, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Chapel in Woodlawn, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 pm with Reverend Alan Rhein officiating. Interment will follow. Dorma is survived by her son, George William “Bill” Beck and wife, Barbara of Mount Vernon, Illinois; daughter, Jean Beck of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, George Edward “Ed” Beck, Tami Sue Kroeschen and husband, Michael, Thomas William Beck all of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and great-grandchildren, Phillip Hamerski and wife, Veronica of Chicago, Illinois, George Dalton Beck of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Savannah Beck of Cherryhill, New Jersey, Emmalee Kroeschen, Brayden Kroeschen, Alyssa Kroeschen, Annabelle Kroeschen all of Mount Vernon, Illinois.In addition to her parents and husband, Dorma was preceded in death by her step father, Wallace “Doc” Hauk.
She was born December 27, 1929 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Fred and Ruth (Wooldridge) Dodson. Dorma married George Robert “Bob” Beck on September 28, 1946 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. They were blessed with fifty-seven years of marriage before he preceded her in death on February 13, 2004.
