2022 02/18 – Cynthia “Cindy” Ann Longwell

Cynthia “Cindy” Ann Longwell, 73 of Mount Vernon, Illinois died on her birthday, Saturday, February 12, 2022 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Cindy graduated from Naperville Central High School. She received her Occupational Therapy Degree from the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago followed by an Internship at Milwaukee County Hospital. Her work in Occupational Therapy included the areas of psychiatry, pediatrics, quadriplegic, and paraplegic rehabilitation, school system, and home health.She was a dedicated mother and grandmother and she was a member and past Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Vernon, member of the Presbyterian Women where she was deeply involved in the twice-yearly rummage sale, bazaar and cookie walk.She was a member of the Round Table Study Club and enjoyed her Pinochle group.After retirement, she was one of the early volunteers at Life Boat Alliance. She was loved by her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be planned in April.In accordance with her love of pets and all animals, memorials can be made in her name to the Centralia Humane Society. She married Charles W. Longwell, Jr., M.D. on June 29, 1975 in Naperville, Illinois. She is survived by her husband and son, Charles W. Longwell, III, M.D. and wife, Diana of Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren, Phoebe and Rory; sister, Cathy Palm-Gessner and husband, Bob of Prescott, Arizona; brother, Rusty Palm and wife, Amber of Sugar Grove, Illinois; nieces, Kate Summers and husband, Kevin and their children, Rhys and Elinor of Western Springs, Illinois and Elyse Pal and husband, Joe Hauge of River Side, Illinois.

She was born February 12, 1949 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Robert and Mary Ann Palm. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rachel Ann Longwell in 1986.
