Robert B. Robinson, 78, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at his home, January 31, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones. Bob graduated from Mount Vernon Township High School and Southern Illinois University. He served his country in the US Navy abroad the USS Cony and USS Wright. He was a teacher and coach in Jefferson COunty Schools in Ina, Farrington, and McClellan. He served his community as a member and past president of Kiwanis. Bob enjoyed music and loved to sing in church choirs, and groups First Day Singers, and Loveshine. Both groups toured to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He loved the Lord and also shared his faith by teaching Sunday School, Bible Drill and Bible Studies. He was an avid reader and an enthusiastic Cardinals Fan. Mr. Robinson was a member of Southwest Christian Church.
A Visitation will be held Monday, February 7, 2022 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 pm with Pastor Randy Steele officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Mays) Robinson of fifty-six years, his sons, Darin and wife, Wendy Robinson and Robert I. Robinson; daughters, Christina and husband, Brian Arndt and Melinda and husband, Ron Robinson; grandchildren, Christian Robinson, Kaleb and wife, Savannah Robinson, Austin Robinson, Kirsten Minor, Kylie Hage, Emilee Arndt, Jack, Reagan, and Lydia Robinson; great-grandson, Beckham Robinson; brother, Russell and wife, Karen Robinson; sister, Tammie Connaway and husband, Harry; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was born February 19, 1943 the eldest son of Russell R. and Leona G. (Hatfield) Robinson in Columbus, Georgia. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Ann Lusby; brother-in-law, R. Wayne Mays; nieces, Anna Maria Mays, Tammie April Moore; and nephew, Judson Connaway.
