Gerald Barnhart, 87, of Abbeville, Alabama, formerly of Salem, Illinois passed away January 21, 2022, at the home of his son in Abbeville.
Born February 24, 1934, in Venice, IL, he was the son of Judge Gilmore and Stella (Larimore) Barnhart who preceded him in death.
Gerald retired as a packer from Radiac Abrasives in Salem.
He united in marriage with Cynthia M. Watts, on May 26, 1956, and she preceded him in death in 2001.
Surviving are his sons, Gerald Michael Barnhart and Jane Krutsinger of Abbeville, and Tommy Glenn Barnhart and wife Lori Anne of Mexico, MO, along with grandchildren Gerald Michael (M.B.) Barnhart, Wayne Dustin (Teddy Bear) Barnhart, Carver-Jon Nathan (Nate) Barnhart, and Charity Leah (Cherry) Sturgeon. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren.
After failing health for the past few years, Gerald lived at his son’s home on Lake Eufaula in Abbeville.
He was preceded in death by sister Delmont Brown and Esther Hargis.
Funeral services will be Monday, January 24, 2022, at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Sutherland – Rankin Funeral Home with Tommy G. Barnhart officiating. Burial will follow at the East Lawn Cemetery in Salem. Visiting hours will be from 11:00 am Monday until the service hour at the funeral home. The family kindly asks that due to the pandemic, masks be worn and social distancing respected.
