Jeffrey “Jeff” Wheeler, 64, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 2:45 pm January 13, 2022, at his residence.
He was born October 18, 1957, in Mount Vernon to the late Howard W. and Wilma Jean (Sledge) Wheeler. Jeff married Tammy (Poston) Wheeler on October 29, 1976, in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with 45 years of marriage.
In addition to his beloved wife, Jeff is survived by his sons, Greg Wheeler and significant other, Jen Griffith of Energy, Illinois and Nick Wheeler and wife, Talia Mays of Columbia, Tennessee; grandchildren, Samantha Leneave and husband, Brandon, Aidan Mays, Lex Wheeler, Soren Mays-Wheeler, and Kazik Mays-Wheeler; siblings, Bob Wheeler and wife, Dianna, Chuck Wheeler and wife, Julie, and Carla Donoho and husband, Ron, all of Mount Vernon; sister-in-law, Lori Scott and husband, Chuck of Mount Vernon; mother-in-law, Dolores Poston of Mount Vernon; aunt, Margie Carrell of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jeff was preceded in death by his baby brother, Danny Wheeler; daughter-in-law, Maggie Wheeler; and father-in-law, Ross Poston.
Jeff was the proud owner of Once Upon A Lifetime Photography in Mount Vernon. He was a faithful member of Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church and sang with the group Shades of Calvary for many years. He was an outstanding carpenter and a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Jeff will be deeply missed.
A Greeting of Family and Friends will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2022, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. A Celebration of Life will begin at 3:00 pm with Reverend Travis Hayes, Reverend Les Sinks, and Reverend Short Sledge officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
