Larry H. Schmidt, 84, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 1:05 pm January 12, 2022 at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. Larry was an avid fisherman and hunter, that could fix anything. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and Teamsters Union for many years. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A Visitation will be held Monday, January 17, 2022 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Reverend Mark Dye officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Larry married Linda (Cochrum) Schmidt on July 20, 1979 in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with 42 years of marriage. In addition to his beloved wife, Larry is survived by his children, John Schmidt of Ransom, Illinois, Donald Schmidt and wife, Keri of Saunemin, Illinois, Steven Tate and wife, Jan of Mansfield, Illinois, and Amy (Schmidt) Ward and husband, Jeff of Wildwood, Missouri; grandchildren, Adam Ward, Douglas Vaughan, Stephen Schmidt, Jr., Matthew Schmidt, Lauren (Ward) Bazzoli, Caitlin (Ward) McCracken, Kelly Henning, Kristy Berwick, Kelsey Schmidt, Ryli Schmidt, Anna Frees, Denise Frees, and Keri Collins; eleven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was born June 6, 1937 in Gibson City, Illinois to the late John H. and Avoil (VanAntwerp) Schmidt-Reed. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his children, Stephen Schmidt, Robyn Schmidt Brogan, Joyce Frees, and Dennis Frees; great-grandson, Aaron Reed; brother, Jerry Schmidt; and sisters, Vana Baker and Nancy Stokes.
