Evelyne (Pergl) Hanks Martinez, age 83, of Salem, formerly of Sandoval, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at 2:38 a.m. Evelyne had a deep faith in Christ and powerful belief in prayer. She enjoyed swimming, bowling, and gardening in her younger years, and tending to her flowers, and feeding the birds, squirrels, and neighborhood cats in her later years. She lit up around children, and especially loved spending time with her grandkids.
Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded, and a private family service will be held. Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made in Evelyne’s honor to the Centralia Humane Society and will be accepted for the family at the funeral home. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Vic Goodspeed and husband Bill, Penny Bryan and husband Mike, all of Centralia; four sons, Wesley Hanks of Centralia, Tim Hanks and wife Gayle of Cabot, Arkansas, Steve Hanks and wife Carla of Yalaha, Florida, and Scott Hanks and wife Dawn of Odin; her 16 grandchildren, Jayson Hanks, Trey Hanks, Candy Miller, Teryn Wathan, Karisa Neudecker (Mike), Andrew Watson (Candice), Jamie Mansker (Cristina), Corey Hanks (Amanda), Tyson Hanks (Rachel), Mylia Battista (Matt), Matthew Bryan (Tiffany), Joby Bryan (Quinlyn), Zachary Hanks, Jessica Carter (Jace), Alicia Hanks, Trista Moore, and Maci Hanks; 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; her brother Mike Pergl of Florida; her mother Ellen Pergl of Salem, her uncle Kenneth and aunt Dolores Parker of Alma; and many cousins.
She was born on September 4, 1938, in rural Alma, the daughter of Charles and Ellen (Parker) Pergl. She was married to Scott Hanks for over 25 years, and later married and divorced Lladio Martinez. Mrs. Martinez was preceded in death by her father; and beloved son Terry Hanks.
