2022 01/10 – Richard Earl Carpenter

Richard Earl Carpenter, 67, of Centralia, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. Richard was a graduate from Centralia High School. He worked at Kirby Risk for many years. He enjoyed working in the yard, planting flowers, fishing and playing golf. Richard was an avid St. Louis Cardinal’s Fan. He was a member of the Centralia Elks Lodge 493 and the Centralia Moose Lodge 1219. Richard cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.

A Visitation for Richard Carpenter will be held Monday, January 10, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia. Per the family’s wishes, everyone should wear their St. Louis Cardinal attire. Due to the rising Covid cases, anyone who will be attending the visitation will be required to wear a mask and social distance. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618)532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Carpenter Family. He married Mary Jo LeMay on November 5, 1977 and she survives in Centralia.
In addition to his wife of 44 years: Mary Jo Carpenter of Centralia, he is also survived by a daughter: Jeri Carpenter of Centralia; step son: Bradley Henken of Centralia; three grandchildren: Elania Carpenter, Trenton Hintz and Lukas Hintz all of Centralia; a brother: Gary Hanks and wife Michelle of Spring Lake, Michigan; three sisters: Toni Guile and husband Bill of Hoffman, Bobbi Swift and husband Russell of Alma, and Micki Adams and husband Jeff of Shattuc; a special nephew: Jason Hanks and wife Amy of St. Charles, Illiniois and several nieces and nephews.

He was born April 26, 1954 in Centralia, the son of Neil Carpenter and Roberta (Hanks) Carpenter. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
