Mary Ruth Murphy, 77, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away on January 3, 2022, at her residence in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
She was born February 29, 1944, in Fairfield, Illinois to the late Jessie and Josephine Stroud. Mary married Ralph Murphy on September 5, 1969, in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with nearly forty-seven years of marriage before he preceded her in death on January 14, 2016.
Mary is survived by her siblings, Roberta Scherer of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Barbara Davis of Fairfield, Illinois, Johnnie Stroud of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and several nieces and nephews. Mary was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church and worked at Good Samaritan Hospital as an LPN for over forty-four years.
A Visitation will be held Friday, January 7, 2022, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am with Reverend Russell Gaston officiating. Interment will follow at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City, Illinois.
