Salem Township Hospital President says COVID-19 appears to have peaked

Salem Township Hospital President Kendra Taylor says it appears COVID-19 has peaked in the Salem area….at least for now.

She told the hospital board on Wednesday this has been a very rough year for the hospital starting with the shutdown of many services when COVID first hit in the spring and then will the large number of COVID cases in the fall.

“We have experienced a drop of in-patients who are Covid positive.  While we are still seeing individuals coming in for out-patient testing and in our Rural Health Clinics the number of patients presenting each day has decreased.”

Taylor reported the hospital’s average inpatient and swing bed census were both down compared to last November. The hospital’s lab remained much above last year largely as a result of COVID-19 testing. Taylor reported surgeries were down. She attributed that to a combination of those scheduled for surgeries having to reschedule because they were COVID-19 positive or didn’t want to proceed with the heightened number of COVID cases.

Taylor says the hospital administered 75 of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines to hospital and EMT employees.   She reports there were no adverse reactions and positive reaction.

The hospital did have a profitable month in November, finishing $89,503 in the black.
