Harold “Toots” Jett, age 89 of Salem, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis. Harold was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Salem. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from the United Pacific Railroad after many years of employment. He enjoyed hunting with his grandsons and spending time with his family.
Funeral services for Harold Jett will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 1:00 pm at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Larry Woodward officiating. Burial will follow at Fredonia Cemetery in Odin with Military Rites provided by the Salem American Legion. There will be a visitation at the funeral home from 11:00 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Pentecostal Church of Salem and can be left at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem who is assisting the family with arrangements. Survivors include his daughters, Brenda Gordon & husband Don of Sandoval, Barbara Hongsermeier and husband Neal of Sandoval and Sharon Wiehle and husband Kent of Iuka; sisters, Charlotte Cain and husband Keith of Patoka and Mary Doudera of Salem; brother-in-law, Jerry Murray and wife Dixie of Cartter; sisters-in-law, Linda Hanks and husband Mark of Pinckneyville and Carol Murray of Odin; grandchildren, Jacob and wife Melissa, Ashley, Carrie and husband Jeremy, Kyle and wife Amber and Seth and wife Cheyenne; and great-grandchildren, Hailey, Hunter, Aubrey, Ava, Jolee, Graceyn, Delaney, Harper, Quinn, Lydia, Jordyn, and one expected in June.
Harold was born on August 26, 1932, in Odin, Illinois the son of Charles and Virgil Anna (Hill) Jett. He married Wanda L. (Murray) Jett on July 19, 1959, in Vandalia and she preceded him in death on July 4, 2008. Harold was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
