Ameren Illinois electric bills going down slightly

By News Dec 11, 2020 | 11:30 AM

Ameren Illinois has announced a third consecutive rate decrease for delivering electricity to your home or business beginning in January.

Spokesperson Marcelyn Love says the rate decreases are possible as a result of the Energy Infrastructure Modernization Act — or Smart Grid Bill — that passed in 2011.

Ameren Illinois customers will benefit from a decrease in their electric utility rate starting in 2021.  This is the 3rd consecutive decrease for customers and 7th overall since Smart Grid Bill was passed in 2011.”

Love says the program has also resulted in a modernization action plan. 1.2-million smart meters have been installed, power pole and wires have been strengthened and more delivery infrastructure is being placed underground. The improvements along with new outage detection technology have resulted in a 20-percent improvement in system reliability.

Ameren also notes customer satisfaction has improved dramatically during the eight years the plan has been in place. The company now ranks among the best in the energy sector for reliability and providing customer convenience options.
