John Edward Pinkston, 72, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 11:43 pm November 28, 2021, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
He was born July 11, 1949, in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Roy Weldon and Frances (Sheley) Pinkston. John married Sandra (Jones) Pinkston on January 1, 1972.
In addition to his loving wife of nearly fifty years, John is survived by his little boy, Max (fur baby); brothers, Roy W. Pinkston Jr. and wife, Patricia of Sesser, Illinois, Steve Pinkston of Missouri and daughter, Elise Pinkston; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dale and Nina Jones; sister-in-law, Diana Winternheimer and husband, Ron; brother-in-law, Randall Jones and wife, Jana; nieces, Veronica Winternheimer, Elizabeth Dale; nephews, Roy Pinkston III and wife, Debbie, Eldon Winternheimer, Dr. John Dale and wife, Sarah, Daniel Jones and wife, Melissa, Seth Jones and wife, Stephanie, Luke Jones and wife, Natalie; special cousin, Lola Shashack; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy and Mary Sue Pinkston and Carrie and Ralph Sheley and his sister, Cheryl Walton. Mr. Pinkston proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1967 – 1971. He worked at Mount Vernon Neon Sign, M R Advertising, and Walgreen’s Distribution Center. He was a member of Mount Vernon AMVETS where he served as Past Post Commander and was a life member of the Mount Vernon Elks Lodge. John was very patriotic and was very proud of his time in the Navy. He was very supportive of all veterans.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2021, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at 11:00 am at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Merle Fullerton officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Military Rites will be held by American Legion Post #141.
