A 17-year-old Centralia juvenile boy who was shot during an altercation at a mobile home on Natures Lane east of Salem has been airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital.
A 16-year-old Centralia juvenile boy who had left the home walking following the incident was picked up along the County Farm Road for questioning, but was later released by the sheriff’s department pending further investigation.
The victim was shot one time in the lower abdomen with a handgun. The gun has not been recovered. The victim was taken by private vehicle to Salem Township Hospital where he was eventually transferred to a St. Louis hospital.
Marion County Sheriff’s officials say there were seven minors and one adult in the home when the altercation broke out. None of those present would give the sheriff’s department a statement of what happened, including the victim. No one else was injured and no one else is considered a suspect.
Sheriff’s Deputies received assistance from Salem Police in handling the incident.
The shooting occurred at 11:05 Friday morning.
