A pickup truck was reported stolen from a residence in the 3600 block of South Hotze Road Friday morning a short time after a man fled on foot from a nearby attempted traffic stop by State Police.
The Chicago area man reportedly had pulled over for the traffic stop on I-57 at the 115-mile marker a mile south of the Salem exit. After the trooper discovered the man had a warrant out for his arrest he ran from the vehicle. He is believed to have run down Andrews Court before making his way to South Hotze Road where the pickup truck was stolen.
Salem Police and Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies joined the search. As they were looking for the man, a report came into the Marion County Sheriff’s Department about the stolen pickup.
The pickup at last word has not been located. The search for the man also ended without success.
The traffic stop occurred at 8:44 Friday morning.
