A CN freight train with a hot bearing set fire to brush alongside the railroad tracks near Odin and along the Hopkins Hunter Road north of Salem early Friday morning.
Salem Fire Protection District Chief Dave Duncan says it was difficult to reach the remote area that was on fire. They were eventually joined by Kinmundy-Alma in putting out the fire. Odin Firemen were called out to fight the fire that started along the tracks in Odin.
The train had stopped after starting a few fires north of Salem. The crew later was able to get the train near a crossing where repairs could be made.
No buildings were even endangered by the fire.
Kell Firemen stood by at the Salem fire station in the event of another fire.
The call came in around six Friday morning. Firemen were on the scene for about two hours.
