A replica of what the new 1st Responder Memorial will look like as provided by Wilson and Wilson Monument Company.
The Salem Elks have received permission from the Salem City Council to install a 1st Responder Memorial near the Eagle in the East Lawn Cemetery.
City Manager Rex Barbee explained the project at Monday night’s meeting.
“They are covering the cost of it, the installation and they will maintain the updates on the names of anyone else that comes about. Their qualifications are that it’s going to be for Salem Police and Fire Departments, Marion County Sheriff’s Department and State Police who either reside in Marion County at the time or lost their life in Marion County.”
The Memorial will stand 4 feet six inches above ground, will be 24 inches wide and six inches thick. It will be made of Southern Gray Granite.
