Charles C. Roethemeyer, 83, of Centralia, passed away Monday, October 25, 2021 at SSM Healthcare St. Mary‘s Hospital in Centralia. Charles was a Welder for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad for over 27 years before he retired. He also was in the Navy for 4 years. He was a member of the American Legion and a member of the Elks for over 50 years. He was also a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be dearly missed by his family and those that were gifted with the chance to know him.
A visitation for Charles C. Roethemeyer will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. In memory of Charles, memorial donations can be made to the family and will be accepted at Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 N. He married Judy Kay (Hicks) Roethemeyer on September 3, 1966 at St. Peters Church of Christ in Centralia and she survives him in Centralia. In addition to his wife Judy of 55 years, Charles is survived by one son: Corey Roethemeyer and significant other Amanda Smith of Centralia; one daughter: Juli Atchison and husband Robert Atchison, Sr. of Junction City; seven grandchildren: John Atchison and wife Samantha, Brittany Cross and husband Devan, Robert Atchison Jr. and special friend Paige, Chelbie Roethemeyer, Dale Atchison, Peggy Atchison, all of Centralia and Chase Roethemeyer of Boulder; four step-grandchildren: Gabrielle Smith and special friend Trever of Kinmundy, Hailey Krerowicz of Centralia, Bryan Krerowicz of Centralia, and Damien Flores of Centralia; eleven great-grandchildren: Landon, J.J., Kaiden, Gracelynn, Aaliyah, Serenity, Avrie, Remy, Madisyn, Kaylani, Kamari, and two more on the way; one sister: Verlaine Featherling and husband Russell of Centralia; and special niece and nephew: Kim Addis and John R. Starr.
Charles was born December 9, 1937 in Nashville, Illinois, the son of August Roethemeyer and Ella (Lunte) Roethemeyer. Charles was preceded in death by his parents: August and Ella Roethemeyer; in-laws: Willard J. Hicks and Marguerite (George) Hicks; siblings: Georgine Roethemeyer, Millie Conner, Arleen Fritschen, Alvera Lambert, Robert Roethemeyer, and Paul Roethemeyer; and one grandchild: William Atchison.
