Carl Gleason Hawkins, 82, of Centralia passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at home surrounded by his family. Carl was retired from General Tire in Mt. Vernon. He was a (lifetime) Sportsman’s Club Member. He was a Chicago Cubs fan, owned several daschunds over the years, and leaves behind his loyal daschund “Peanut.” Carl was an avid Nascar fan, enjoyed horse races, bull riding, mutton-busting, feeding the hummingbirds, cooking out, BBQing, listening to country music, watching Daniel O’Donell perform of Branson, MO. He loved working word puzzles, watching “Jeopardy,” and Westerns, and Jimmy Swaggart ministries.
There will be a celebration of life service for immediate family at a later date, at Panther Fork Baptist Church near Texico.
He married Chalice (Burgess) Geibe of Orchardville, IL. on December 24, 1990. Carl is survived by his: wife Chalice of Centralia; sister Marilyn (Jerry) Albert and family of Iuka; sister Brenda (Dennis) Farrari and family of Centralia; daughters: Carla Ragsdale of Benton and Robin Hawkins of Pinckneyville; stepson Dr. Jesse R. Geibe of Virginia; stepdaughter Lesia (Geibe) Goostree of Centralia, 2 stepgrandchildren: Lakota Geibe and Jessa Geibe of Centralia; grandchildren: Chasity, Chad, Tiffany, Dustin, Skylar, (twins) Brooklin and Chloe; several great grandchildren; sister and brother in law Marvin and Vicki (Burgess) Bayles.
He was born July 18, 1939, the son of Benjamin Franklin and Opal (Meador) Hawkins in Texico, Illinois. Carl is preceded in death by his father “Frank” and mother Opal (Meador) Hawkins, 2 infant daughters: Cathryn and Rebecca Hawkins, brother Douglas Wayne Hawkins, mother-in-law Betty (Byers) Burgess, and brother-in-law Gregg Burgess.
